Tattoo Rules

June 25, 2008

Tattoo rules

Did you know there are strict tattoo regulations? That there are all sorts of regulations and stipulations when it comes to applying tattoos and who can get a tattoo. Such laws of course vary from country to country and even state to state but there are general laws that carry through and are similar no matter where you are.

So what kind of things are governed by tattoo rules?

Minimum Age For A Tattoo

  • A minor cannot get a tattoo without written consent from a parent in the presence of the tattoo artist or shop owner. Even with parental permission some states still have minimum age limits minors have to be to get tattooed.

Sterilization and Cleanliness

  • The presence of sharps boxes for the disposing of the needles and razors used to shave the tattooing area.
  • The use of disposable gloves, and how frequently they need to be changed and the varying laws under when they must be changed.
  • The availability of hand washing sinks and the frequency at which the hands must be washed.
  • Disposable razors being used and even the use of paper towels.

Even The Simple Things

  • The inks that are used in the tattooing processes.
  • The packaging used on sterilized items.

Keeping a strict regulation of records, such as inventory of all products within the shop and the medical records of all people who have received tattoos is also part of this law. They include the maintenance of all the artists vaccinations and licences. The shop itself also requires a license under the tattoo laws.

Even the layout of the shops and things like the ventilation and lighting levels that are required within the shop is regulated. While these laws vary from place to place and it is important to be up to date with the laws anywhere you plan on getting your tattoo. A shop that adheres to the laws of the area is more likely to be a place of proper sterilization and methods.

By doing your research and knowing the laws you will be able to bes choose a shop that will provide a clean and safe tattoo for you. A tattoo is a permanent body modification and needs to be taken seriously and researched extensively.

Though some laws may seem ridiculous it is important to find a shop that adheres to them. They are in place to protect tattoo enthusiast so trying to find somewhere that doesn’t follow regulation opens yourself up to failure to meet other standards as well.

Tattoo Design And Placement

June 8, 2008

Some of the more important tattoo decisions once you have chosen to get a tattoo are tattoos design and placement. A tattoo is permanent so you need to ensure any choices or decisions regarding the design and placement will be choices you can live with in the future.

You probably would not want to have to go through the pain and cost of getting it removed later because you had not spend the necessary time and thoughts to ensure it was something you would be happy with for life.

Tattoo Designs
Although custom design often have a higher price tag they may be the best choice to ensure a tattoo will be something you will love for life. In fact, if you go through the entire process of picking elements of your tattoo and getting it custom done, you will more than likely be happier with your tattoo as it will be something personally yours.

It will symbolize what you want it to and be in the colourations and placement that is best suited to you. Customized tattoos are more creative and reflective of the bearer than one that is chosen from the flash on the wall of the studio.

However, if you have no idea of what tattoo design to get for yourself, you can check out Tattoo Me Now. To read a review of Tattoo Me Now, click here.

Tattoo Placement
Placement is another essential part of picking your tattoo. Due to the fact, it is with you for life, you have to take into consideration, how that part of your body may look as it ages. There are parts of the body that sag and wrinkle and move as you age and if your tattoo happens to fall on one of these places it can begin to look odd as you age. You also need to remember that dependant on gender, different parts of the body change differently.

To Be Seen Or Not
Another factor to consider when picking where your tattoo will go is whether or not you want it to be visible by everyone or only a select few. Also consider whether or not your employment will find issue in your ink and whether future employers may have an issue with it.

After all, for males it is easier to cover tattoos in office places as their office attire is more covering. For a female you have to consider if you are wearing a dress skirt, your legs and ankles are revealed so this may not be the best place for you to pick.

Deciding upon the tattoo design and placement takes into account many factors. These factors are important to consider to ensure your tattoo is something that will work with you for life. You don’t want to go through all the pain and money of getting something you will hate a few years down the road. Proper research and consideration will ensure you enjoy your tattoo for years to come.

Tattoo Definition - What Is Tattoo

June 5, 2008

The number of individuals that have tattoos is increasing at a fairly alarming rate.  In fact, it is difficult to be in a group of people where a least one of them does not have a tattoo.  Some of these are faddish but are actually becoming popular enough that they are turning into a staple for many individuals.  A good example of this is women getting tattoos on the small of their back.  I am often surprised with the number of women who have this done.  All that aside, however, you might be surprised with what the actual tattoo definition really is.  Understanding it will help you to make certain decisions as far as your tattooing is concerned.  Of course, it may not help you to decide which tattoo you want but it will be interesting, nonetheless.

The basic tattoo definition is the process of ink being inserted underneath the skin through the use of sharp instruments, commonly needles.  Often, this is done in a tattoo parlor or other sterile environment where a professional will take care of the process for you.  It is also possible for home tattooing to take place and this has become very popular among people who are not old enough to have a legitimate tattoo done.  Getting a home tattoo is different as far as the equipment is concerned but the actual process is very much the same.  It is simply inserting ink underneath the skin through the use of something sharp.

Many people are surprised to find out exactly how old tattooing is. The fact of the matter is, tattooing has been taking place for several thousand years.  Of course, it was not done for the same reasons as it is done today.  Many people did not have tattoos in order to be cosmetically pleasing at that time.  The reason why they had tattoos was because of ritualistic practices and displaying ownership as in the case of slavery.  In later centuries, tattooing was often done in order to identify prisoners permanently.  Although this has been done for several centuries, it was very prominent during the time when individuals were kept in the concentration camps during World War II.

If you’re going in for a tattoo, you may want to take some things into consideration.  Although the tattoo definition is one that is relatively simplistic, you might want to make sure that you are having it done properly which may not be all that simple.  For example, the person that actually gives you the tattoo should be reputable and have the proper equipment.  Not only can this help to prevent the spread of disease, it may make the difference between you being happy in the long term with your ink or not.

Take the time to make the right decision as far as your tattooing is concerned.  Never have one done outside of a professional setting and always make sure that your mind is totally made up before undergoing the process.

Tattoo History

June 2, 2008

There are many people that get tattoos these days and they get them for a variety of different reasons.  For many individuals, it is simply a matter of wanting to have something on you that is permanent and also makes a statement.  Other people may do so in order to enhance the way that they look in some way or another.  This is not only done in the way of regular tattoos but it is also seen in permanent makeup, which is also a form of tattooing.  Even though these individuals may have tattoos, many of them are unfamiliar with tattoo history and where exactly the practice came from.

You might find it interesting that tattoo history actually dates back for several thousands of years as far as we know.  In fact, it has been seen in a variety of different mummies that are over 4000 years old.  More interesting than that is the fact that there were also tattoos found on an Iceman that was frozen in the Alps for some 5000 years.  There is also a historical record of the fact that people used tattoos on a regular basis in the Bible.  In the law that was given to the Israelites, they were forbidden to make tattoo markings upon themselves as some of the other surrounding nations were in the practice of doing. The people that had these tattoos had them for a variety of different reasons, some of which may actually surprise you.

For the most part, tattoos had a religious significance to some degree or another.  It is thought that many individuals did not get tattoos in ancient times in order to enhance their looks although this may have been done on some occasions.  More often than not, it was meant to display a loyalty to some deity or to show your particular rank within that religious order.  These tattoos were of all shapes and sizes and each culture seems to have their own particular type of tattoo markings that they used on a regular basis.  By having one of these tattoos visible, you were identifying yourself as being part of a particular religion.

Taking a look at tattoo history also shows that they were used for political significance as well.  People of high stature were given specific tattoos in order to show that they were part of a particular political arrangement, even used to signify which rank they held.  There were also tattoos that were given to slaves which help to identify them as being part of a certain household.

Finally, tattoos were a way of identifying prisoners permanently.  This practice was widely used throughout Europe several hundred years ago but it has also been seen in more recent years.  A good example of this is when the Nazis would mark those who went into the concentration camps with numbers.  It is just another part of tattoo history that makes it so interesting.

You may have seen from TV that tattoos are used in certain cultures to mark manhood or even womanhood.
