So what kind of things are governed by tattoo rules?
Minimum Age For A Tattoo
- A minor cannot get a tattoo without written consent from a parent in the presence of the tattoo artist or shop owner. Even with parental permission some states still have minimum age limits minors have to be to get tattooed.
Sterilization and Cleanliness
- The presence of sharps boxes for the disposing of the needles and razors used to shave the tattooing area.
- The use of disposable gloves, and how frequently they need to be changed and the varying laws under when they must be changed.
- The availability of hand washing sinks and the frequency at which the hands must be washed.
- Disposable razors being used and even the use of paper towels.
Even The Simple Things

- The packaging used on sterilized items.
Keeping a strict regulation of records, such as inventory of all products within the shop and the medical records of all people who have received tattoos is also part of this law. They include the maintenance of all the artists vaccinations and licences. The shop itself also requires a license under the tattoo laws.
Even the layout of the shops and things like the ventilation and lighting levels that are required within the shop is regulated. While these laws vary from place to place and it is important to be up to date with the laws anywhere you plan on getting your tattoo. A shop that adheres to the laws of the area is more likely to be a place of proper sterilization and methods.
By doing your research and knowing the laws you will be able to bes choose a shop that will provide a clean and safe tattoo for you. A tattoo is a permanent body modification and needs to be taken seriously and researched extensively.
